59 ( +1 | -1 ) En passant...En passant (french word meaning "in passing") is a tactic only to awns... It began because of the rule change that allowed pawns to advance two squares on their first move... This change was the only reasonable way to speed up the opening game, but it should not deprive a player a right to capture as it zoomed past it...
When an opposing player has his pawn on his 5th rank, and you move your pawn two squares past his pawn... The next turn (and only the next turn) he has the option to capture your pawn moving his pawn as if you only moved one square....
